Hotels
K-Lié has 2 photography series for this project, Hotel. These series were taken over a course of many years, in both England and France in 2 completely different environments. Modern and traditional village architecture.
The first hotel of the series is the Hempel Hotel in London, this was taken during the period that Anushka Hempel was the owner of it, before it was sold. This was an immensely popular hotel among many, with a modern luxurious feel.
The second series was made in the Hotel Chèvre d’or Eze in South Eastern France, which was said to be recommended by Walt Disney himself, for the owner at the current time of the Château de La Chèvre d’or in 1953 to turn it from just a restaurant to the hotel it is now. Due to it being situated in village, it has maintained the traditional beautiful French architecture and kept an ambience of magnificence.
These two hotels with completely opposite atmospheres, we can see the different yet clear beauty of these hotels, which also represent how completely vast and different lives of fellow humans can be, whilst life, being a precious and rare present, we all live in different worlds and situations.
Travelling and watching the world, I gave a certain importance to this particular project, as I believe the idea of staying in hotels demonstrates how temporary and fleeting life and living is.
With these series I wanted to highlight the beauty of life, be it being human or being in a hotel. How we use items which were there before us in a hotel or the world, will live with us and will live after we have left, we are only temporary. During our life, we need to enjoy it, just like a stay at a hotel, enjoying the fleeting blissful moments, to enjoy what we came for and what we can.
“”This too shall pass.” At that moment Solomon realized that all his wisdom and fabulous wealth and tremendous power were but fleeting things, for one day he would be nothing but dust.”
